At Hazardex Live 2026 on 25-26 February 2026, Mike Johnson, VP Senior Principal Consultant at DNV, will be providing insights into the latest research regarding explosion risk and process safety.

Explosions can be the maximum potential event on a major hazards facility. They can also be the escalation path leading to further loss of containment and potential for harm. Research across more than 40 years, including large scale experiments, has transformed out understanding of how damaging explosion pressures are generated. This has had a direct effect on our ability to manage these hazards through both prevention and mitigation.

About the speaker:

Mike Johnson provides technical governance for a range of projects at DNV Spadeadam Research and Testing, including studies of the hazards associated with hydrogen. He has over 47 years’ experience in hazards research, process safety and incident investigation, originally joining British Gas Research & Development (now part of DNV) in 1978. He has investigated over 60 explosion incidents, mostly related to domestic explosions in the UK but including major vapour cloud explosions.
