The nominees for the Net Zero Innovation Award are:
a. Gexcon – FLACS-CFD - 3D CFD tool for hydrogen applications
FLACS-CFD is an advanced and most comprehensively validated 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tool for the simulation of hydrogen dispersion, explosion, and fire scenarios around complex geometries, including far-field effects related to blast propagation. The tool includes specific models for hydrogen, such as the ability to simulate high-pressure hydrogen gas releases using the real gas law, and liquid hydrogen releases.

b. MSA Safety – Observer® i Gas Leak Detector - acoustic detector
This high-precision, omni-directional acoustic detector utilising Gassonic® ultrasonic technology instantly detects pressurised gas leaks, including hydrogen. Works even when traditional methods of gas detection are unsuitable or dependent on ventilation. The Observer-i UGLD provides a detection range (up to 28m) reducing the number of detectors required.

c. ONIS – ONIS Line Blind - pipeline isolation in hydrogen-related industries and applications
The ONIS Line Blind is an innovative device specifically designed to address the challenges associated with hydrogen's flammability. This three-body device, comprising the upstream flange, slide gate, and downstream flange, ensures a secure and controlled environment by physically disconnecting pipes during maintenance or emergencies. One of the main advantages of the ONIS Line Blind is its rapid and tool-free positive isolation capability. This feature minimizes exposure to hydrogen, preventing leaks and containing the risk of flammability and explosion. Furthermore, the device's forged bodies, free of welds in contact with hydrogen, substantially reduce the risk of corrosion, ensuring longevity and robustness in demanding hydrogen transport environments.

d. Raytec – SPARTAN - lighting used on world’s first hydrogen-powered passenger ferry
At Raytec, all SPARTAN hazardous area products are certified to be used in environments where hydrogen is present, with the majority classified to gas group IIC. Raytec products were recently deployed on the world’s first hydrogen-powered passenger ferry, which required the use of ATEX approved lighting. SPARTAN Bulkhead and SPARTAN Flood luminaires were installed in the vessel’s hydrogen storage room and deck areas. ATEX and IECEx certified (with Class I Division II variants also available), the luminaires met the requirements for offshore applications (as stipulated by the USCG), while a IIC Gas Group rating ensured the luminaires were compliant for applications where hydrogen is present amongst the Hydrogen Powered Passenger Ferry.
